Nature’s Home Remedy for Stretch Marks

Remedy for Stretch Marks

If asked which skin problem they’d like to eliminate forever, a lot of women will tell you it’s their stretch marks.  Every woman has them somewhere… the abdomen, the back of the upper legs, arms.

Dermatologists call them Striae, but whatever you call them, one thing’s for sure: they are unsightly.  There are some surgical solutions involving lasers, but before you go that route, try these organic home remedies that have been shown to help fade stretch marks in women just like you.

What are Stretch Marks?

Skin is elastic, and elastic fibers in the dermis are what give it this quality. There is a limit to everything in life, however, and the skin’s elasticity is no exception.

When the skin is overstretched, the dermis tears and the result is stretch marks. They are striations in the skin, almost like scars because they have a different texture than the rest of the skin.

The “Symptoms” of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are simply a cosmetic annoyance- they do not pose any health threat.  However, they are a very common “ailment” and plague millions of people.

When you see parallel lines in your skin in areas such as the arms, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs, you know you’ve got stretch marks.

The Causes of Stretch Marks

When your body gains weight, the skin must stretch to cover the extra bulk.  However, the skin needs a little time to accommodate all the new “areas” it must cover.

The dermis will stretch, but it takes its own sweet time.  If the body gains weight so fast that the skin can’t keep up with the stretching then stretch marks result.

Here are the main causes of stretch marks:

  • Pregnancy, pregnancy, and pregnancy (the #1 cause)
  • Weight gain: growth spurts in adolescence or muscle gain from working out a lot
  • Medication: steroids can cause stretch marks, and so can corticosteroid creams
  • Cushing’s syndrome
  • Adrenal gland diseases
  • Marfan syndrome (a genetic disorder)
  • Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (also a genetic disorder)
  • Some other hereditary disorders

Home Remedies for Stretch Marks

The best home remedy for stretch marks is one that incorporates natural healing.  The following remedies are all based somehow in nature, and will provide not only effective diminishing of stretch marks but also a healthy regimen that won’t harm your body.

1. Exercise.

Toning your muscles will eventually pull everything back in, helping to make stretch marks less noticeable.  It firms up the skin so it fades faster.

2.  Coconut Oil and Vitamin E Oil.

Mix these two oils and apply topically twice a day.  Coconut Oil is what does the trick, but it lacks Vitamin E, hence the need to mix the two.

Coconut oil is amazing for skin and stretch marks in particular because it not only has powerful antioxidants but also lauric acid which is only found in coconut oil and breast milk.  What breast milk does for a growing newborn, coconut oil can do for the skin.

3.  Apricot Scrub.

This is a super exfoliator, which gets rid of the damaged stretch mark skin tissue and helps to tone the skin, which means the stretch marks won’t be as noticeable.

4.  Lavender Oil.

This is a popular home remedy for stretch marks- apply three times a day to the area.  Lavender oil promotes the growth of new skin, which will replace the damaged skin.

5.  Eat Healthy Food.

Add more protein, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E to your daily regimen.  All three promote the formation of healthy new skin and aid in the healing of damaged skin.  Vitamin K will speed up the healing of stretch marks so eat lots of dairy and leafy greens.

6.  Add Zinc to Your Diet.

Zinc is essential for the production of collagen, which you’re going to need a lot of after suffering stretch marks.  Collagen is what makes your skin elastic, so the more of it you have, the faster your marks will heal.  Zinc also helps to prevent stretch marks in the first place.

7.  A Recipe of Vitamins & Oils.

This combines several home remedies for stretch marks. Combine virgin olive oil and aloe vera gel in a 2-1 ratio. Then empty some Vitamin E and Vitamin A capsules into the mix.  Apply to your stretch marks every day.

This is also a prevention.  Aloe Vera has enzymes that promote the flushing out of damaged skin tissue from your stretch marks.

In fact, you can combine any of these natural home remedies for a super dose of stretch mark fading solution.  The beauty of it is that they’re all natural, meaning you won’t have to worry about toxicity, side effects or cost.
