Remedies for Scabies |
Scabies are contagious, widespread, and extremely irritating due to the incredible itchy feeling of bugs crawling under your skin. If you’ve contracted scabies, you are infested with bugs, psychologically one of the worst concepts you could imagine.
Therefore, you will want the strongest, fastest-acting solution available. But since you’re committed to natural healing, will organic home remedies for scabies suffice? Yes, and below you’ll find some home remedies you can use.
What is Scabies?
You heard it right: scabies are when actual bugs crawl under your skin, lay eggs, and just hang out, making your life miserable. The bugs are known as the human itch mite, or scientifically Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. You can’t see them since they’re microscopic but you certainly will feel them.
Scabies is a global problem and nobody is immune. It spreads fast when humans are crowded together in unclean circumstances, which is why we sometimes associate scabies with third-world prisons.
What Are the Symptoms of Scabies?
The number one symptom of scabies is horrendous itching. The itching often gets worse at night. This is accompanied by a rash that also itches.
The rash looks like pimples and if you scratch them they will turn into skin sores. Now you’ve got a whole new problem because the skin sores will become infected by bacteria.
The scabies mite lives and dies its entire life in your skin.
Sometimes one can see the burrowing marks made by the mites, right on the skin. It’s the female tunneling beneath the outermost layer of your skin, looking for a nice place to lay her eggs. You’ll see grayish white lines on your skin (sometimes they’re skin-colored).
If you don’t see these burrowing lines, however, you may still have scabies. That’s because they’re sometimes very hard to see and there aren’t many of them anyway. When you get scabies, you’ll only have 10-15 mites on your body.
What Causes Scabies?
Direct and prolonged contact with another human being is how you get scabies. For that reason, it’s associated with sexually transmitted diseases but isn’t officially an STD.
You can get scabies from a roommate or family member in the same house, too. You can also get it from sharing a towel or clothing. Kids often get it in daycare. You cannot get scabies from your pet.
You can’t usually get scabies from a quick handshake
The elderly or people with compromised immune systems can get a worse form of scabies called “Norwegian Scabies”. This involves terrible crusty patches under which lots of mites and eggs are found. The crusty patches give rise to the other name for this severe form: “Crusted Scabies”.
